Only two games took place in the Joma division in match week 5, due to NPLFA sides progressing in the FA Youth Cup.
Top of the table Radcliffe FC continued their excellent start to the season travelling to last year’s champions Warrington Town and came away with a convincing 9-1 result, Aaron McGrath scored Warrington Town’s only goal, whilst the pick of Radcliffe’s goal scorers was Cameron Lewarne with a superb hat-trick. Radcliffe FC now sit at top of the table, with Warrington sitting just a couple places below in 3rd. Next up for Radcliffe FC is a tough fixture against a strong Matlock team who will be trying to close the gap on the leaders. Warrington Town have visitors who are just one place below them for their next game, Witton Albion who will be trying to leap frog their Cheshire rivals.
Mickleover Sports took on Sutton Coldfield Town in the other Joma Division fixture. In a closely contested game, Mickleover got off to a strong start and it was a tense first half before Rashaan Taylor-Anderson broke the dead lock before half time to give Mickleover Sports the lead and they went on to score another through Kieran Smith in the second half to run out 2-0 winners. Sutton Coldfield Town have had a tough start to life in the NPLFA Joma division but can count themselves unlucky coming away from the game without something to show for their performance.
Mickleover Sports currently sit in mid-table and head to north to Ossett United for their next game. Ossett United have also had a tough start so Mickleover will be hoping to extend their winning run. Sutton Coldfield Town face another away fixture against Leek Town who sit just above them in the table, both teams will be keen to kick start their season with a win.
In the Sports Traider Division, 4 games took place and goals were a plenty and there were some close end results. The leaders, Loughborough Dynamo, continued to dominate their league with a convincing win over a mid-table Carlton Town. Loughborough Dynamo started the season strongly with free-flowing football and scoring but new opponents to the NPLFA programme are beginning to settle in and are improving week on week. A commanding performance from one of their star players, Szymon Donnerstag, saw him score a hat-trick, whilst Carlton’s Joe Sheekey did his best to get a result for Carlton by scoring a brace but unfortunately his brace wasn’t enough as Loughborough Dynamo won 4-2 at the final whistle, however the Carlton manager Alan Trukan was delighted with his team’s performance. Carlton Town are on the road again to face Widnes who have started the season well upon joining the programme, this will be another challenging fixture for Nottingham based outfit. Loughborough Dynamo go to Matlock Town for their next game and will look to try and keep their 100% record and extend their lead at the top of the table.
A young Sutton Coldfield Town welcomed Belper Town to their ground and have seen how difficult this league is for new first year groups. An unfortunate own goal gave Sutton Coldfield Town their only goal in this fixture and Belper went on to score 8. Harry Dudley came close to getting a hat-trick for the Derbyshire side, but had to settle for a brace. Belper now sit just below mid-table. They have a home tie against Ossett United for their next game and will be hoping to gain back to back wins. Sutton Coldfield Town take on 2nd in the league in a challenging tie against Radcliffe FC.
Ossett United took on a strong Mossley team in an excellent fixture, but couldn’t stop goals from Dylan Fitzgerald and Joe Cooper, and Aaron Barrow managed to net himself a brace to eventually beat Ossett United 4-2. Moussa Diallo was the stand out man for Ossett scoring a brace, but it wasn’t enough to gain the points for his team. Ossett United are off to high scoring Belper Town next week and they will try to tighten up their defence. Mossley travel to Mickleover Sports who have had a tough start, which Mossley will be hoping to capitalise on and continue their winning ways.
Radcliffe FC after a slow start are the closest contenders to high flying Loughborough Dynamo and they faced a home tie against Mickleover Sports. It was a tense first half and the teams went into to the half time break all square at 1-1. Mickleover Sports game out of the blocks first with quick goals in succession for Luke Wilson who bagging a stunning hat-trick. That took Mickleover Sports to a commanding 4-1 lead, but a valiant fight back was started with a strike from Emanuel Koomson which then gave way to Lewis Shore to add to his goal from the first half. Mickelover Sports then couldn’t stop the 2 ‘Callums’ with Callum Westhead striking from outside the box to take it to 4-4 and in a stunning game, Callum Tebay with a brilliant individual effort going past one and striking just inside the box scored to make it 5-4 and claim all 3 points in this thrilling match. Radcliffe FC now travel to Sutton Coldfield Town for their next game and try to keep their winning spirit going, whilst Mickleover Sports have a home tie against Mossley for their next fixture.
