Matlock Town, based in the Peak District, Derbyshire have been in the Northern Premier League since 1969 and have competed in the NPL ever since.

Nicknamed the ‘Gladiators’ they were FA Trophy winners in 1975, defeating Scarborough in the final at Wembley Stadium.

Current members of the Premier Division they joined the NPL Football Academy in it’s second season in 2015.

Lewis Brown is the first student to have first team involvement when he was on the bench in their Evo-Stik League Premier Division fixture at Stamford AFC on 27th February 2016.

Max Hunt became the second NPL Football Academy student to move to the professional game when he moved to Mansfield Town in July 2016.


Jamie is 27 years old and currently plays for Matlock Town first team having moved from Gainsborough Trinity in July 2016. Having started his football career at Rotherham United as a youngster Jamie has played close to 350 appearances in semi-professional football at clubs such as; Burton Albion, Boston United, North Ferriby and now in his second spell at Gainsborough Trinity. His current playing career at such levels allows him to pass on valuable experience to the players he currently coaches.

Jamie knows all about the BTEC qualification the students are undertaking having passed the Level 3 award which included his first aid award and passed his UEFA B qualification in 2016. Jamie is delighted that progression in his coaching qualification, has provided him with the opportunity to join the NPLFA in his first coaching / managerial award at Matlock Town Football Club Academy.
